Reading your dog's ears

Pricked forward, turned to the side or pinned right back: your dog's ears show you how they're feeling. Here's how to read them.

Your dog's ears tell you something too. Their position changes all the time and shows you what your dog is paying attention to and how they're feeling. Even with floppy ears, it's worth a look: just watch the base of the ears – it moves along as well.

Ears forward

When your dog points their ears forward or up, they're interested: there's something they want to find out more about. If their body looks upright and tense at the same time, it can also mean confidence – or even announce a threat. The dog is then fully focused on whoever is in front of them.
