Safety islands for insecure dogs
Fixed resting spots along your route give anxious dogs something to hold on to. How to build safety islands where your dog can switch off.
For an insecure dog, the world outside is all a bit much: noises, people, other dogs. Fixed spots along your route where your dog can catch their breath really help. They're called safety islands – little refuges your dog comes to link with calm and good moments.
How to build an island
Pick distinctive spots, such as a certain tree, a bench or a wall. There you regularly do something pleasant: sit down quietly, stroke your dog or let them search for a few treats. Over time your dog learns: it's safe here, I can relax here.
