Summary
Microchip required for all dogs, with register
The rule
Every dog must be marked with a tamper-proof microchip (transponder under ISO 11784 or 11785) at the latest after its third month of life and in any case before it is first passed on (§ 4 BremHundeG), and registered with the chip number in a recognised pet register without delay after keeping begins (§ 5 Abs. 1). The registers are private pet registers recognised by the Senator for the Interior and Sport (§ 5 Abs. 3). Anyone who already kept a dog on 10 July 2025 had six months to register it; older transponders that do not meet ISO remain sufficient (§ 20 Abs. 2 and 3).
