Note: The city council has adopted an amendment to the dog tax bylaw (press release of 17.06.2026): from 2027 the first dog 144 euros instead of 132 euros, each further dog in the same household 168 euros; also more tax exemptions for assistance dogs.

Off-leash areas in Nuremberg
20 – designated dog off-leash zones
Nuremberg has 20 designated dog off-leash zones; dogs may run without a leash there provided they are reliably under control. For fighting dogs the leash requirement also applies in the off-leash zones. The overview of all zones is kept by the public space service (Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum, SÖR).
