Vom 1. April bis 31. Juli müssen Hunde im Wald und bis 50 m zum Waldrand an der Leine geführt werden. Ausgenommen sind Jagd- und Herdenschutzhunde sowie Diensthunde der Polizei und des Rettungswesens im Einsatz und in der Ausbildung. Unabhängig von der Jahreszeit gilt Leinenpflicht in öffentlich zugänglichen Lokalen (z. B. Restaurants, Läden), in Naturschutzgebieten, in Parkanlagen, in öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln und auf verkehrsreichen Strassen (§ 3 Hundeverordnung, SRL 849). Läufige und bissige Hunde sowie Hunde mit ansteckenden Krankheiten müssen im Freien immer angeleint sein.
