Training
Using the long line correctly
The long line is perfect for recall training and more freedom. How to use it safely – for your dog and for you.
The long line, usually five to fifteen metres long, is a valuable aid. It gives your dog plenty of freedom in the woods or in a meadow, as long as off-lead running isn't yet reliable, and it's ideal for practising recall over a larger radius. At the same time it prevents your dog from simply bolting at the crucial moment.
Always to the chest harness
Attach the long line exclusively to the chest harness, never to the collar. If your dog suddenly darts off on the long line, the jerk on the neck would injure it. On the harness, the force is safely spread across the body.
