From the imprinting period to adolescence: which phases your young dog goes through – and how to accompany it calmly.
A young dog changes rapidly in the first two years. How it experiences the world later arises from the interplay of disposition and what it gets to know during this time. You don't have to do everything perfectly – but a few things are especially worthwhile.
The sensitive phases
In the first weeks and months, your puppy learns especially easily what's normal and harmless. New sounds, surfaces, people and dogs now become part of it gently. Quality counts more than quantity here: better a few good experiences than a stimulus marathon that overwhelms. A puppy that gets to know things positively and without pressure becomes a more composed adult dog.
