How much exercise does a puppy need?

May puppies let off steam or does that harm the joints? The old advice to keep young dogs still is now considered outdated. What really does good.

For a long time the advice was that young dogs should move as little as possible, in order to spare the growing bones. More recent findings show: that's outdated. Adapted, free movement does your puppy good, physically and mentally. The only important thing is the right amount.

Why movement does good

During free play and exploring, your puppy trains its muscles and coordination, and even the joint cartilage adapts to the load. Movement also boosts the brain: it supports learning, emotional control and frustration tolerance. A puppy that's allowed to let off steam in an age-appropriate way develops better all round.
