Relaxed at the vet: medical training

Giving a paw, holding still, showing teeth: how your dog learns to take part calmly in grooming and at the vet.

Grooming, examinations and small treatments are part of a dog's life. With a little training they turn from stress into routine – because your dog learns to take part voluntarily, rather than just enduring them.

Voluntary instead of holding down

The core is simple: your dog gets a say. Instead of holding it down, you teach it to actively offer itself – for instance to rest its chin in your hand or to wait on a mat. If it holds still, things carry on and it's rewarded; if it turns its head away, you pause. That way it keeps control and trusts you.
