Checking the ears and giving drops

A look in the ear or ear drops can be unpleasant. How to get your dog used to it gently, so ear care goes smoothly.

Ears want checking regularly, and sometimes ear drops are necessary. Both are often unpleasant for your dog, especially when the ear is already irritated. With gentle training it accepts ear care much more calmly.

From the outside in

Announce the touch and begin at a spot on the head that's pleasant for your dog. Only once it allows this calmly do you work your way to the ear: first touch the ear, then grasp it, then lift the ear tip. Touching the inside of the ear is the most difficult step, which you build up especially slowly.
