When your dog sees less well
Does your dog bump into edges or recognise you later? How to make its home safe and help it cope with fading sight.
The eyes, too, often slowly decline with age. Signs are that your dog looks at things searchingly for a long time before reacting, bumps into edges or furniture or briefly mistakes you for a stranger when you come home. Bumping into things doesn't mean it's completely blind; it just has to get used to the changed sight first.
Make the home safe
Clear away trip hazards and leave furniture standing where it is as far as possible. Familiar routes in the home and garden should stay the same, then your dog finds its way around almost by heart. A sight-impaired dog masters known surroundings much better than new ones.
