Claws grow throughout life. In dogs that move a lot on hard ground, they wear down on their own. If your dog moves less, for example in old age, they quickly get too long. That's not just a matter of looks but can become really unpleasant.

Why overly long claws are a problem

Walking on overly long claws presses and can become painful. Your dog then changes its posture to avoid the pressure. Such protective postures can over time lead to tension and joint problems. Short claws are therefore genuine health prevention.
