The rule
The levy on keeping dogs (dog levy) is an exclusive municipal levy (§ 16 Abs. 1 Z 12 and Abs. 2 FAG 2024). The municipalities may impose it by resolution of the municipal council without a maximum amount; guard dogs, assistance dogs and dogs kept for a profession or business are not covered by this authorisation (§ 17 Abs. 3 Z 2 FAG 2024). The Salzburg municipalities may also use the data from the dog report for the levy (§ 16a Abs. 4 S.LSG). Amount per municipality, see the city page.
