A well-fitting chest harness is the best choice for everyday life. It spreads the pull across the chest and body and spares the sensitive neck area. Because pulling on the neck can harm your dog, up to and including raised pressure in the eye or injuries. With such a large choice, it's worth knowing the main designs.

The common models

The H-harness is flexibly adjustable and restricts movement the least. The Y-harness sits snugly and often fits puppies and narrow dogs well. The popular Norwegian harness with its wide chest strap is easy to put on, but often sits poorly and hinders the shoulder or the lowering of the head when snuffling.
