Sheltered, but not isolated
The ideal spot lies a little away from the hustle and is protected from disturbing stimuli, so not right by the front door, at the window onto the street, by the television or in the children's room. At the same time your dog should feel your closeness. A quiet corner with a view of what's going on, but off the main thoroughfares, is often perfect.
