Why snuffling tires your dog out
Ten minutes of intense snuffling often gives your dog more of a workout than a big walk. How to turn the walk into a cinema for the nose.
Your dog smells many times better than you. When it has a good sniff at a corner, it's reading the news, so to speak: who was here, when, in what mood. This processing of smells is real brain work and makes a dog pleasantly tired. Often a calm snuffle walk brings more contentment than a long, hectic round.
Quality instead of distance
Consciously give your dog time out and about. Stop when it has found an interesting spot, rather than pulling it on. It's not the number of kilometres that counts, but how much it's allowed to explore. Vary your rounds by all means: go the other way round, add a detour, deliberately head for places with lots of smells such as a field edge or a spot where many dogs pass by.
