The rule

Dogs of the breeds Pit Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier as well as their crossbreeds with each other or with other dogs are dangerous dogs (§ 7 Abs. 3 BremHundeG). Keeping them is prohibited unless an exceptional permit has been granted (§ 8 Abs. 3); breeding, multiplying and trading are prohibited (§ 7 Abs. 4). Exempt are owners who are only staying in Bremen temporarily (report in advance) and non-profit animal shelters (§ 8 Abs. 4 and 5). The local police authority classifies other dogs as dangerous in individual cases, for example after a bite or threatening jumping at people (§ 7 Abs. 1).
